The Dunstable Artisans Welcome Two New Members
The Dunstable Artisans is a community-based organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts for its growing membership. Recently, two new artists, Bob Coviello of Sudbury, and Matthew Gray of Pepperell, were added to the group.
- Bob Coviello, a portrait painter, professional musician and teacher, has combined his love of jazz and painting by creating acrylic portraits of his "musical heros," such as Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong.
- Matthew Gray is a landscape painter working in oils. His "en plein air" style of painting on location quickly captures the natural light and shadow of many New England scenes.
Members Paula Barry, a potter , and Carol Babineau, a jeweler , were recently juried into the prestigious League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. Their work will be on display during the League's Mount Sunapee Fair set for Aug. 5 to 13.
The Dunstable Artisans also play a role in helping Groton-Dunstable High School students who display an interest in the arts. For the past four years, the group has sponsored a $250 college scholarship annually to a graduating senior. Facilitated through the high school guidance office, staff members from the middle school art department review the completed applications and select the scholarship recipient.
In addition, a student art show is displayed during The Dunstable Artisans' annual October Show and Sale event, and two $25 cash prizes are awarded for "Best of Show" and "Most Creative" as voted by several members of the Artisans group. High school music students participate by performing during the show, and a bake sale is held to benefit the music department.
The Dunstable Artisans 17th annual show will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22, at The Groton North Middle School.
