Young Artist Tiffany Nguyen Gets a Good Start at GDRSD
Entry in 2005 Coca Cola "Art in Harmony" competition.I first met Tiffany Nguyen in her junior year, when one of her studio arts teachers, Maureen Green-Stevens, told me she had been selected as one of 12 finalists in the New England region for Coca Cola's "Art of Harmony" competition. Her work was also exhibited in the student art show at the Groton Library last year. Tiffany lives in Dunstable and is one of several talented artists who recently graduated from Groton Dunstable Regional High School.
This year, as I was wandering through Groton-Dunstable's annual student art show , I spotted more of Tiffany's work on display among the portfolios of the graduating senior art students. Tiffany has a very distinctive style that catches your attention. She also seems to have the level of talent, skill and commitment that is needed to succeed in the highly competitive world of commercial art.
In the Artist's Statement that accompanied her portfolio, Tiffany said, "Art is, and has always been of great importance rather than a necessity to me." She believes her strength lies in 2-dimensional art, but is still exploring her ideas and abilities in a variety of 2-D media.
Tiffany goes on to say that she strives to "portray situations that I have extrapolated from my own experiences and present them in a simple way so that general viewers can relate to my pieces. Life is not always as pretty and serene as a painting, so my pictures elicit both positive and negative moods. If I were to only create pieces with only positive moods, I would feel dishonest to my audience." She uses figures in her artwork "to convey messages, moods, concepts, and to give the image an energy and life of its own. I prefer to depict figures because of my interest in the influence that individuals can have on each other."
Tiffany is committed to pursuing a career in art. She wants to show people that it is possible to make a good living from pursuing the arts as a profession.
This fall, Tiffany will attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. In talking about her future, she says "I have not decided [on a major] yet, because I believe it would be foolish to declare what I want to pursue for a career when I have no hands-on experience in the field. I will admit, however, that I am interested in animation, illustration, and graphic design, and my greatest ambition is to become an illustrator for the game company Square Enix."
This is a young woman who seems to be well on her way to fulfilling her dreams.
