Update on Verizon projects in Dunstable
Since the Dunstable Board of Selectmen approved the Verizon cable franchise last May, Verizon has been making progress on a number of projects in town. Dunstable's Verizon Representative Carol Baribeau has recently provided the following update on the status of those projects.
Verizon is "on track" with their plans to eliminate the tilted telephone pole in the town center by the end of November. They are scheduled to start moving the lines this week.
Verizon FiOS services are now available to most residents who are served by above-ground utilities. They plan to begin installing the fiber optic cable needed to make FIOS services available to residents with underground utlities, which includes most of the town's subdivisions, starting in April 2008.
Many of the residents who have already switched to using FiOS TV, internet, and telephone services are sharing positive experiences with both the installation process and the quality of the service itself. The biggest outstanding issue for FiOS TV customers is lack of access to public access channels, such as the Dunstable and Groton cable channels.
Dunstable's "G" (government) channel is apparently working, but the town currently has no broadcasts on that channel. Access to the "E" (education) channel depends on having an interconnection with Charter. Verizon is currently in negotiations with Charter to pick up that signal. Access to the Groton Channel may take a little longer to get, since Verizon does not yet have the authorization to provide FiOS TV service in Groton. When available, Verizon public access TV will be broadcast on channels in the range of 28-43.
