Arts
Joyce loved painting and drawing as a child. Her interest in art is probably inherited, as her great-great uncle, Sebastian Bourdon, was a 17th century French artist who has a dozen paintings in the Louvre Museum in Paris. As a teenager, Joyce attended the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston. When it came to choosing a career, like many woman of her era, Joyce chose a more utilitarian career and became a Registered Nurse. She has worked as a Nurse all her professional life. While raising her four children, she continued her study of art.
She has studied art at the New England School of Art & Design, Harvard University Graduate School of Design as well as working with individual artists including Selma Bromberg, printmaker, with whom she studied monoprinting, wood cuts, and etching. She also studies plein air watercolor painting with Cape Ann artist Paul George and has participated in a workshop with Australian watercolor artist Rober Wade.
Joyce is an active member of the Dunstable Artisans. Each year, in addition to exhibiting her work at other galleries, she participates in the Spring Art Show at the Little Red School House, and the Dunstable Artisans Show and Sale at Swallow Union School, which is coming up in October.
Joyce does commissioned work at her studio. Some of her favorite subjects are flowers from her garden, animals, and people and places she encounters during her worldwide travels. She also sells prints on her website: http://www.joycefrederick.com
